RanchoMirage is about superior quality of life. It is located geographically in the center of the Coachella Valley and enjoys sunshine nearly everyday. The community of Rancho Mirage is a leader in luxury residential developments, exclusive country clubs and famous residents behind guarded gates. It started in the 1940’s with Thunderbird Country Club which housed the Valley’s first 18-hole golf course. Early members of the club included: Ambassador Leonard Firestone, Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. The Thunderbird of Ford Motor Company was named after this exclusive Country Club.
Another notable property is Sunnylands at the corner of Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra drive. This is the estate of the late Walter Annenberg a lasting legacy to a great business man and ambassador. The 205 acre property has 12 ponds and a nine-hole golf course. It is here that presidents and heads of state were entertained regularly. President Ronald Regan made regular visits for New Years Eve, bringing $500,000.00 worth of advertising to the area.
Rancho Mirage boasts over 42 restaurants along Highway 111, known as Restaurant Row. It is the destination of upscale dining and it attracts visitors from far away places. You can take a culinary journey from Hawaii at Roy’s, to Mexico at Las Casuelas Nuevas and then to the far east at Bangkok Five. New hotels and entertainment complexes are nestled close along the highway inviting people to stop in and enjoy a stroll and a tasty meal.
The meandering water features at The River in Rancho Mirage have made it a must-see desert attraction. It is a colonnade of shopping, entertainment and dining with an entertainment amphitheater, live music, fountains and cascading waterfalls. The River is also the location of the annual event, “Bits and Bites” where residents and tourists alike come to sample the fare of over 20 restaurants. This event recently raised $30,000.00 for local charities. The River has become the new hub for shopping, dining and movie going in the Coachella Valley.
Another recent addition to Rancho Mirage is Agua Caliente Casino, just off Highway 10 at the Bob Hope Drive exit. For those who favor the fast pace of gambling excitement and world class entertainment.
